“The Hillsborough Youth Collaborative brings together such a diverse group of young people to improve the lives of children and families. The HYC has certainly impacted my life – it is one of the most meaningful programs I have ever been a part of.  I hope that to see our dedicated group grow and expand, and start new projects that will foster a true intergenerational connection throughout Hillsborough County.”

Hillsborough Youth Collaborative (HYC)

In the summer of 2005, the Children’s Board and Community Tampa Bay embarked on an ambitious project: to involve young people age 15 to 20 in the work of the Children’s Board.

We started by bringing together a group of youth leaders from different backgrounds and parts of the County, dedicated to improving the quality of life for families and children.

Today, the Hillsborough Youth Collaborative, or HYC, has become a unique intergenerational project linking children 0-8, adolescents and adults.

Hillsborough Youth Collaborative participants meet twice a month for fun, interactive training workshops as they set out to become future leaders in our community..

Our HYC training workshops develop leadership and organizational skills, foster future civic engagement, and build community among participants. Training workshops include team building exercises, advocacy and activism, and community mapping.

The HYC also works in Committees: advocacy, youth involvement and project evaluation. The goal is to train and provide practical and theorical experience to the youth in order to serve as a voice for youth amidst the Children’s Board programs and services.

In addition, all HYC members between the ages of 15 and 18 will have the chance to participate in Community Tampa Bay’s Anytown youth leadership and diversity awareness program! Other benefits include building great, lasting relationships, paid expenses for food and travel, COMMUNITY SERVICE HOURS and a stipend!

If you are between 15 and 20, live in Hillsborough County, and want to make a difference in your community, then join the Hillsborough Youth Collaborative! For more information, e-mail our Program Specialist, Jennifer H. Montero or call (727) 568-9333.
