Workshops and Activities
Through
interactive educational activities, skill-building workshops, role-playing
and team building exercises, Anytown participants explore their
own identities and have discussions in a safe environment about
issues that divide their homes, schools and communities.
By
inviting participants to forge a vision of positive change, Anytown
encourages them to become role models in their families, schools
and neighborhoods, among their peers and in the broader community.
Furthermore, Anytown equips the delegates with valuable skills in
the areas of cross-cultural communication and leadership, coalition
building, and problem solving, and prepares them to become advocates
for inclusion upon their return, through the development of individual
action plans for community involvement.
Diversity Awareness
Anytown brings together high school students of diverse cultural,
ethnic, religious, and economic backgrounds to build a culturally
diverse community from the ground up. Over the course of five
days, participants or “delegates” explore different
themes of diversity, such as stereotypes, racial and ethnic discrimination,
gender discrimination, religious intolerance, mass atrocities,
homophobia and sexism. These workshops, along with role-plays
and small group discussions, lead to a greater understanding of
personal experiences and challenge participants to create a more
peaceful society.
Youth Leadership
The objective of our unique curriculum is to help our youth discover
that every individual can make a difference. “Don’t
wait for change to happen, be the change,” is the Anytown
message.
- Identity: Who am I? How do I choose my friends?
- Communication: Leading through honesty, fairness and authentic
communication
