Anytown “En Espanol”
Anytown
is a unique state-of-the-art youth leadership and diversity awareness
program for high school-age students. The goal of Anytown is to
empower young people to create inclusive and just schools and communities,
while learning new skills, having fun and making friends for life.
Anytown received national recognition as a “Best
Practice” by the U.S. Department of Education. It has also
been recommended as one of the best programs to prevent juvenile
delinquency by the National Council on Crime and Delinquency. In
addition, it was cited as an example by “One America,”
the nation-wide Initiative on Race Relations. Anytown is also a
great reference for scholarships and college applications.
The Anytown program was launched in the Bay area in 1991. Since
then, over 3,500 students have successfully graduated from the program
and have gone on to become responsible citizens who model the Anytown
ideals in their professional and personal lives.
Thanks to generous donors and funders, students who participate in Anytown pay only $25 for the entire program.
The real cost – $850 per student – is entirely carried by Community Tampa Bay’s donors and funders.

Community Tampa Bay is looking for committed volunteers, those who make change happen. As we prepare our Anytown 2008 season, we are excited about the prospect of engaging those who are prepared to join us in our mission of promoting respect for diversity. At Anytown we seek to empower diverse groups of young people to create change in their schools and communities where all individuals are treated with respect and understanding.

Anytown Research
A 3-year study on Anytown conducted by Dr. Eileen Lyons of the
University of South Florida in 2005 and featured on National Public
Radio’s University Beat program as a success story showed
that Anytown graduates show a greater acceptance of diversity and
social competence, and dedicate more time to community service than
peers who did not attend the program. Click
