Hillsborough Youth Collaborative HYC!

Community Tampa Bay and the Children’s Board of Hillsborough County work in partnership to support the Hillsborough Youth Collaborative (HYC). The program seeks to empower young people to strengthen the lives of children and families in Hillsborough County through service and effective youth-adult partnerships. The HYC is a YOUTH-LED group. We meet to discuss YOUTH’s concerns, opinions, and priorities for change, and how YOUTH want to go about affecting that change in our community. This amazing leadership experience truly provides students with opportunities to prepare them for college and a civically-engaged adult life.

As a member of HYC you will:

• Learn and practice leadership, advocacy, public speaking, and project planning
• Earn volunteer service hours for school, scholarships, and college applications
• Experience networking opportunities through retreats, trips and and visits with community leaders
• Gain great relationships and lots of fun!!

The Hillsborough Youth Collaborative meets weekly at the Children’s Board of Hillsborough County to plan strategies, practice team building develop leadership skills and have fun, interactive training workshops that support the development of the future leaders of our community.

Current projects include:

• Participation with the CBHC Board, Advocacy Committee and Family Support and Resource Centers.
• The Academy on the Rights of the Child focused on the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and opportunities for local implementation.
• Youth Radio!, a project with WMNF that will train HYC members in all aspects of radio production and allow the youth to produce their own commentaries on the radio.
• Florida Children’s Week, an opportunity for youth to address the Governors Children and Youth Cabinet bringing focus and direct experience to the statewide decision makers.
